Figure 1. REASON rejecters - Species PIONEER
Pioneer REASON rejecters share four of their Top 7 Attributes with all rejecters:
SIMMER, BUDGET BEDLAM, SPECULATE, BENDER.
Aside from SIMMER, the other three Attributes correlate nicely to present a picture of risk taking, rule breaking and a resulting chaotic economic lifestyle – which is more typical of younger rather than older people.
They have no problem with taking a financial risk to get ahead, but at the moment their finances are in a bit of a mess. They are also willing to cut a few corners to achieve a better life. They are more pragmatic than ethical, in contrast to most Pioneers. Also unlike most Pioneers, they are excited by the idea of civil disturbances and even welcoming an urban riot.
Demographics point to the younger age profile among these Pioneers - more than half of them are under 45 – which indicates they are likely to be in the formative stages of being a Pioneer, i.e. still questing to find their personal way of being authentic.
They are actively questioning social conventions, often pushing the boundaries of acceptable ‘normal behaviour’. This is shown by the chart-topping BUZZ Attribute, on which they over index at 137. This measures the acceptance of danger of the risks they take and their need the sensation-rush they feel. Once again this points to a younger set of Pioneers with approximately 75% of Buzz espousers being under 45 years old.
We have previously noted that rejection of REASON has an effect of raising the possibility of civil disorder and potentially violent behaviour towards target groups that are outside ‘the normal’ within a population, i.e. not “people like us”. Among our ‘younger’ Pioneers this is less likely to occur than it is among other Maslow Groups.
This is because of an Attribute they do not share with other rejectors - it's the FANTASY Attribute:
I sometimes see things and am not sure if they are really there. Sometimes it is hard for me to tell where daydreams end and reality begins.
Far from being borderline psychotic, this is an Attribute that is espoused to some extent by 37% of the population, with 63% of them under the age of 45. This is fairly normal at some time or other for large segments of the younger population.
Data tells us that the Pioneer rejecters are more likely to fantasize than other Pioneers.
The implication, which also correlates with other research, is that Pioneer REASON rejecters will share many of the same Top 7 Attributes as other Maslow Groups, but are less likely to turn inclinations into actions. They are more likely to be satisfied with the explorations of fantasies than getting into a street riot.
These are people who have led ‘interesting’ lives up to now and have moved into the Pioneer mode of life. Many of them will have had a variety of ‘edgy’ experiences and understand that sometimes anticipation and memory are more powerful than the actual situations that produce sensations, or satisfy needs. When they take these opportunities to experience the "buzz", they accept that reasoned explanations and arguments to justify their actions just aren't needed – that they want to do anyway! Putting it another way, they just want to ‘do something’ without having to justify it - firstly, to themselves and secondly, to others.
Summary: Pioneer rejecters have a more anarchic side to them than do other Pioneers. In their quest for more data, information and knowledge about their place in world; and accepting they are more chaotic in their behaviours than many others, they gain some measure of control through the use of their mind rather than through physical actualities. They are happy to project their imagination onto the world rather than become a pawn in someone else’s process. They have a high energy approach to life that is not driven by needing to know the nuts and bolts of what the future holds for them. This is likely to be an early stage of ‘living in the now’. |
